How We Teach at GEMS AKIS
At GEMS Al Khaleej International School (GEMS AKIS), our American curriculum approach focuses on developing curious, confident, and capable learners from Pre-KG to Grade 12. Our classrooms bring learning to life through:
Encouraging students to ask questions, explore ideas, investigate solutions, and think critically.
Connecting classroom concepts with real-world challenges to develop collaboration, creativity, and communication skills.
Adapting teaching approaches to support the unique learning needs, strengths, and abilities of every student.
With Promethean smart boards in every classroom, digital learning tools, and the Phoenix Classroom platform, students have access to engaging learning experiences both in and beyond the classroom.
Our core values of respect, integrity, and perseverance are embedded into everyday learning, helping students grow as responsible global citizens.
Assessment
Measuring Student Progress
At GEMS AKIS, assessment goes beyond grades. We use a combination of standardized assessments, classroom performance, and personalized feedback to understand each student’s progress and support their growth.
Students are assessed through:
standardized American assessments used across Elementary, Middle, and High School to track academic growth against national and international benchmarks.
Classwork, participation, practical activities, projects, and tests contribute to a complete picture of student achievement.
A cumulative measure of academic performance that supports university applications.
Capturing each child’s development through observation, creativity, and learning milestones.
Regular updates and parent-teacher conversations ensure families remain engaged in their child’s learning journey.
